My Thanksgiving Menu

Posted by on November 21, 2011 in Family | 22 comments

The past week I have felt disconnected. Not sure what it is, would love to find out.

In the next couple of days I will be cooking like a mad woman. Starting on Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday and last touches on Thursday.

Usually I make the bulk of the food on Thursday, but this year we plan on going to the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, so I have to cook in advance or no one will eat!

Hmm…actually I think I know why. It’s a lot work I’m mentally preparing for!

With cooking for a large family gathering I have to get myself in the zone. Block out all distractions, and convince myself that I’m superwoman in the kitchen (since I’m the only one who does cook for all our family gatherings).

So, here is what I’m going to be making starting Tuesday:

Upside Pineapple Cake

Butter Pecan Cheesecake with Chocolate Glaze

Wednesday:

Turkey (of course)

Stuffing

Candied Yams

Butternut Squash soup

Cornbread

Thursday:

Glazed Carrots

Mashed Potatoes

Collard Greens

Steamed Broccoli

Friday:

My day to officially pass out and get some rest.

What do you say? Do I have my work cut out for me?

  1. yes you do. I hate that I can’t make candy yams that is one thing that I can never get right. Sounds like you will have leftover for Friday so pass on out you will have deserved it.

    • Thanks Kita. But I know, planning to rest on Friday and actually doing it are two different things :-) Our job never stops.

  2. That looks Yummy! And I know it will be a great day. Enjoy it and then take that well deserved day off. ;)

    • Thank you so much Latorsha! Hope you have a Great Thanksgiving as well.

  3. I bow down before you, really. I couldn’t imagine cooking such a big feast by myself. This year our family and extended family will be sharing cooking duties. You should be treated to a day of rest Friday:)

    • Oh that would be so much easier to have family pitch in. My family is getting older, so I can’t expect my mom and grandma to do things like they did in the past. Neither of them don’t trust my sister enough to cook either (long story with that one).

  5. Yes, you have your work cut out but at least you have planned everything out. I guess I am going to back pies on Tuesday and everything else on Wednesday and leave the turkey for Thursday..

    • I do find it to be a bit easier to take the deserts and do them first. As some of them can keep in the fridge for a couple of days. But breaking up the cooking to different days is one way to not lose your mind on Turkey day. At least you get to spend the day with family instead of spending the whole day in the kitchen.

  6. Are you making all of this from scratch? My goodness! Happy eating :)

    • Yup, all from scratch. Still trying to get my mind in the zone lol. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving as well!

  7. Wow is all I have to say. You got your work cut out but I like how you got it plan out. I hope you have a day to rest do that mean no BLACK FRIDAY for you? I hope all is well. God Bless U:)

    • Thanks Poetic Journey, and you’re right, no Black Friday for me. I’m an online shopping kinda gal anyway. The stores in my area are going to be crazy (as all over). Also I don’t like shopping with my daughter, she’s well behaved, but she just doesn’t let me pick anything out. She goes shopping for me lol :-)

      • She reminds me of my neice so,much! She wants everything she see! Gotta love them! HAPPY THANKSGIVING! GOD BLESS U:)

  8. I say, what time should we show up!! LOL! Sounds like a great menu. Work it out!

  9. Wow! Your menu looks like a delicious one! You do have your work cut out for you! But I’m sure it will all be worth it when you are able to rest afterwards.

I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving!

    • Thank you! I’ve already started on the cakes, and now moving on to the main dishes. Just keeping my fingers crossed for things to continue to go as planned. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving as well! :-)

  10. Hi Kalley! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I appreciate your visit and comments on my daughters room! Unfortunately, I do not know the exact color of her room. When her room was painted 3 years ago, we did not save the color swatch. I do remember that we purchased the paint from Wal-mart though. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

I hope you and your family had a nice holiday dinner together. Your menu looks delicious! I love butternut squash soup, but I never tried making it from scratch. Thanks again for your visit and take care!!

    • Hi Brandi, no problem! I really enjoyed your blog. As for the color, don’t worry about it. When I saw it, it just stood out to me as a beautiful color, I’m sure i’ll find something similar down the line :-) We had a great holiday dinner together, and everything was a hit. You’ll be surprised that Butternut Squash soup is really not hard at all to make from scratch. I myself tried it 2 weeks before I added it to my menu.

  11. is it too late to put in a to-go delivery request for some collard greens?!

    • Hahaha! My Momma beat you to it! When packing the “to-go” containers, I asked her what happened to the collard greens, she said “what collard greens.” She had it hiding in the corner.
