First, I wish everyone a Happy Easter.  He is Risen!  He is truly Risen!  Let us all rejoice and be glad.  Easter has always been a time to celebrate with the entire Church worldwide, and there are times when Easter (Holy Week and Easter Week) was to commit horrible crimes against Christians.

Before I continue with this post, please offer a Hail Mary, and Glory Be to all those who lost their lives just going to Church and celebrating.  While they are martyrs for the Church–there are plenty that still need our prayers.

Middle of the Night News

I have a horrible habit that I need to break.  When I wake up in the middle of the night, and cannot go back to sleep, I check Catholic Twitter to see who I can pray for, and to check some of the news.  Again, this is a horrible habit, but this is how I found out about the Sri Lanka attacks.

I think what surprised me the most about the attacks, was the reports about the attacks.   From what we know, Churches and hotels were the target.  Specifically, two Catholic Churches were attacked during the organized attack–so one would come to the conclusion that they were at Mass for the Easter Mass.

Where did Easter Worshipers come from?

Looking at the news reports, I kept seeing Easter Worshipers. I’m not going to lie, the first thing that came to mind was Easter Island.

Easter worshipers

I just kept thinking about people bowing own and worshiping these heads from Easter Island.  Why would the media use “Easter Worshipers” when they could have just said Christians–since that is who the attacks targeted.

Instead, this is what I’ve read from the tweets:

I don’t know what all the dancing is all about, but obviously, they didn’t want to use the “C” word.

What is pretty interesting about this whole thing is that many news outlets used the same terminology.  It’s like they all got the same memo…

What’s A Christian To Do?

At the end of the day, we just cannot be ignorant of the things that are going around us. To be honest–we have a multiple faced war going on, a cultural war, a religious war, ideology war.  You name we are in some kind of battle.

All of this division really comes from one source–and we just have educate ourselves on Spiritual warfare and learn that these battles will be won first on our knees.

These Christians went to Church to celebrate our Lord’s day, and they were killed for it.  When we look at ourselves in the mirror, are we going to Church?  Are we worshiping?  Or, do we make excuses why we cannot go to Mass?  Say our prayers?

We live in an environment when we can go to Mass without being threatened, but how many of us are actually taking advantage of the times we are living in.  No one is talking about it, but we had police presence at my Church for Easter Mass.  I’ve even noticed police presence outside of Protestant churches as well.

Ignore all the talking points that you hear on the news, and search for truth yourself.  As a parent, my job to is to warn my children of the threats that exists outside our bubble.  However, I cannot do that if I am lulled to sleep by false words of safety.

Did you hear about the phrase “Easter Worshiper?”  Why do you think they used it instead of Christians?
