I’ve always loved to learn something new, I loved how my mind was able to think and turn out new ideas, with just a simple statement. One can only hope that I get older, I would enjoy learning complex ideas, and spend some time meditating on it.

At least I hope.

But this week, I found myself giving my daughter a home school pep talk. It’s was Friday, and we were practicing handwriting once again. It’s not her favorite subject since she likes to do her own thing. However, it finally dawned on me what all of this was about.

When we finally break it down on what school is, and what learning is, it’s the knowledge transfer from one person to the next. It’s not just saying that you have to learn this subject, it’s mainly me telling her in different words, that I love her so much, I’m sharing my mind with her.

I’m sharing with her my knowledge, and her father and grandmother are doing the same because we love her and her brother so much, that we want the best for them.

Yes, homeschooling is a sacrifice. We miss out on a lot of things around us, but I have no regrets.  The rewards are so worth it. 

The prep-talk that she did get from me was that her work was not a testament on how well she can do, but on how thankful we are. How thankful we are to in a position to home school, how thankful we are for her learn from her parents, in an environment that will encourage and foster that knowledge.

Her practicing her handwriting, is not only for her, but her work is saying thank you to God for this gift.

After our prep talk, I saw her more dedicated and more attentive.

I look at this at our own work, how we sometimes just complain about something that we don’t want to do, but I’ve managed to look at the many things I do have to do differently. I can understand that I do not do these things just for my family and for myself, but I am also doing these things as saying Thank you, Father. You have given me the opportunity to do your work.

When put that way, who wants to complain anymore?
